WASHINGTON (February 27, 2025) — The Council for Innovation Promotion (C4IP) is pleased to announce that Laura Peter, a distinguished intellectual property expert, has joined its Advisory Board.
“I am honored to join C4IP’s Advisory Board and support its critical work in strengthening intellectual property rights,” said Peter. “With my experience spanning industry, academia, and government, I am passionate about advancing innovation and technology commercialization to solve the grand challenges of our time. I look forward to contributing my leadership and legal expertise to help shape policies that empower inventors and drive economic growth.”
Previously, Laura served as Deputy Under Secretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property and Deputy Director of the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). She currently leads the University of North Carolina at Charlotte’s Office of Research Commercialization and Partnerships as its Executive Director.
“Bringing deep experience with the U.S. patent system — including academia and university research commercialization, government and private sector — Laura is an invaluable addition to our board,” said Andrei Iancu, board co-chair of C4IP and former Under Secretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property and USPTO Director from 2018 to 2021. “Her commitment to reliable and predictable IP rights will help C4IP advance its mission to advance innovation and economic growth in the United States.”
“Laura is an outstanding addition to the C4IP Advisory Board,” said David Kappos, board co-chair of C4IP and former Under Secretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property and USPTO Director from 2009 to 2013. “We look forward to working with her and the full board to strengthen IP rights and protect inventors, universities, small businesses, and more.”
