Council for Innovation Promotion Urges Senate Judiciary Committee To Advance NO FAKES Act

WASHINGTON (June 16, 2026) — On June 18, the Senate Judiciary Committee will vote on whether to advance the bipartisan Nurture Originals, Foster Art, and Keep Entertainment Safe (NO FAKES) Act, legislation that would establish federal protections against unauthorized AI-generated digital replicas of individuals’ voices, images, and likenesses.

Frank Cullen, executive director of C4IP, today issued the following statement calling on lawmakers to advance this bill out of committee:

“The upcoming vote marks a significant opportunity to establish clear, balanced intellectual property protections for the age of artificial intelligence. As AI tools become more powerful and widely available, it is vital to protect creators, politicians, performers, and other individuals from deceptive and exploitative uses of artificial intelligence while preserving opportunities for responsible technological development.

“The NO FAKES Act advances both of those goals. By protecting individuals from the unauthorized use of their voices, images, and likenesses, the bill helps ensure that Americans retain meaningful control over their identities and creative contributions while simultaneously supporting productive uses of AI technology. As a result, C4IP will score support for the NO FAKES Act positively in the Congressional Innovation Scorecard.

“C4IP is grateful to the sponsors of the NO FAKES Act for their leadership and to the Senate Judiciary Committee for considering this important legislation. We now urge the Committee to vote favorably on the NO FAKES Act to help provide American creators, innovators, and consumers the certainty and protections they need to thrive in the AI era.”
