WASHINGTON (June 18, 2026) — Today, the Senate Judiciary Committee voted to advance the bipartisan Nurture Originals, Foster Art, and Keep Entertainment Safe (NO FAKES) Act, S.4591. The bill creates federal safeguards against the unauthorized use of AI-generated replicas of individuals’ voices, images, and likenesses.
Frank Cullen, executive director of the Council for Innovation Promotion (C4IP), issued the following statement applauding the vote:
“The vote reflects a growing bipartisan consensus that Americans deserve protection from unauthorized AI-generated replicas. As artificial intelligence continues to transform how content is created and distributed, policymakers must ensure that individuals are not left vulnerable to exploitation and deception.
“C4IP commends the Senate Judiciary Committee and the bill’s sponsors for advancing the NO FAKES Act and looks forward to the bill’s consideration by the full Senate. C4IP will continue to score support for the NO FAKES Act positively in the Congressional Innovation Scorecard.
“This is an important step toward establishing clear rules that support innovation while protecting individuals from unauthorized AI-generated replicas.”
