Council for Innovation Promotion Announces New Chief Policy Officer and Counsel: Jamie Simpson

WASHINGTON (April 25, 2023) — The Council for Innovation Promotion (C4IP) is pleased to announce that Ms. Jamie Simpson will join as Chief Policy Officer and Counsel, effective May 1.

“We are thrilled to welcome Jamie Simpson to the C4IP team. Jamie’s combination of talent and experience will be enormously impactful in our mission to promote strong and effective intellectual property policies,” said Frank Cullen, executive director of C4IP.

Simpson has almost 20 years of experience in policy and a specific focus on IP-related issues. She previously served as Chief Counsel on the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Courts, IP, and the Internet; Counsel to the Senate Judiciary Committee while on detail from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office; and Associate Solicitor at the USPTO.

“I am excited to serve as C4IP’s inaugural Chief Policy Officer and Counsel and honored to be working with such a remarkable team on issues that are so vital to our nation’s economic success,” said Simpson.

A graduate of Harvard Law School and, previously, a law clerk at the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, Simpson has extensive expertise in intellectual property law and policy, as well as an earlier background of working on patent litigation and licensing disputes.

“Jamie is a respected expert in the field, with a stellar reputation, and her relationships and past experience will undoubtedly prove invaluable to the advancement of C4IP’s priorities,” said Andrei Iancu, board co-chair of C4IP and former under secretary of commerce for intellectual property and USPTO director under President Trump.

“It’s poetic that we’re adding such a notable expert to C4IP’s roster the week of World IP Day, which is celebrating the role that IP plays in the advancement of women creators, entrepreneurs, and inventors this year,” said Dave Kappos, board co-chair of C4IP and former under secretary of commerce for intellectual property and USPTO director under President Obama.
